The Power of God’s Word:

How to Approach Scripture for Transformation

In a world filled with conflicting voices and ever-changing beliefs, how do we, as followers of Christ, anchor ourselves in truth? The answer is simple yet profound: God’s Word.
As we launch into this new sermon series, we are setting our focus on the Bible—God’s breath on a page, His living and active Word given to guide, correct, and transform us. But beyond just knowing Scripture, we must ask an essential question: How do we approach it?

We Live in a Time of Bible Poverty
It’s not that we don’t have access to Bibles—we have more copies, apps, and resources than ever before. The issue is that many of us don’t truly know what’s inside the Bible. We live in a time where people call themselves Christians but hold beliefs, values, and worldviews that contradict Scripture.

Why? Because instead of turning to God’s Word as the ultimate truth, we often allow the world to define truth for us. The media, culture, and personal experiences shape our perspectives—often in ways that pull us away from biblical truth rather than toward it.

How Should We Approach the Bible?
If we want to experience real transformation, we must change how we engage with Scripture. Paul understood this when he wrote to his young protégé, Timothy, encouraging him to remain steadfast in the Word:

"Continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." – 2 Timothy 3:14-17

From this passage, we see three key ways we should approach Scripture:

1. Stand in Awe of God’s Word
The Bible is not just another book—it is God’s breath on a page. It carries divine authority and power, and when we approach it with awe and reverence, we position ourselves to receive its truth fully.

Jesus Himself emphasized the significance of Scripture when He said:

"You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me." – John 5:39

The Bible is our window into the heart of God. It is not outdated or irrelevant—it is the foundation of our faith and the key to knowing Him more.

2. Kneel in Submission to His Word
Submission is not about control—it’s about trust. When we submit to Scripture, we acknowledge that God’s wisdom is greater than ours, and we surrender to His truth even when it challenges us.

Jesus said:
"Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching." – John 14:23

Many people today want to pick and choose what parts of the Bible they follow. But true discipleship requires full submission. It means allowing God’s Word to shape us, convict us, and transform us, even when it’s uncomfortable.

3. Walk in the Illumination of His Word
Psalm 119:105 says:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

God’s Word is meant to guide our daily lives. In a world that constantly bombards us with messages about how to think, feel, and live, Scripture is our true north. When we walk in its illumination, we see life through God’s perspective, make wiser decisions, and grow spiritually.

What Would Happen If We Truly Engaged with Scripture?
Imagine if, over this next year, you committed to engaging with the Bible regularly—not out of obligation, but out of a desire to know God more. How would your life change?
✔️ Your faith would deepen.
✔️ Your family would grow stronger.
✔️ Your perspective on the world would shift.
✔️ Your struggles would no longer define you.
✔️ Your heart would align with God’s heart.
This is the power of God’s Word. It doesn’t just inform us—it transforms us.

Will You Take This Challenge?
As we move forward in this series, I want to challenge you: Commit to engaging with the Bible consistently. Even if it’s just 10-15 minutes a day, open your heart to what God wants to say to you through His Word.

If you do, I promise this will be the year of transformation. The year your perspective shifts. The year your faith is strengthened. The year God moves in your life in ways you never imagined.

Let’s approach the Bible with awe, submission, and expectation—and watch what God will do.
