You Are What You Eat: A Spiritual Perspective
What’s on your plate today? I’m not talking about kale smoothies or grilled chicken—the food your spirit feeds on. In John 4:32 (NLT), Jesus tells His puzzled disciples, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.” Later, in verse 34, He explains, “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.” This isn’t about physical hunger—it’s about the fuel our souls were designed to run on.
Think about a car. You wouldn’t pour lemonade into the gas tank and expect it to roar down the highway. It’s built for gasoline—nothing else works. In the same way, God designed us to run on Him. Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4:1-13 show Jesus facing temptation in the wilderness, hungry after 40 days of fasting. The devil offers bread, power, and safety, but Jesus doesn’t bite. Instead, He leans on God’s Word, saying, “People do not live by bread alone” (Luke 4:4). His spirit was sustained by something more significant than food—God Himself.
We chase happiness in a million ways: success, relationships, distractions. But here’s the truth: apart from God, it’s like trying to run a car on sugar syrup—it sputters and stalls. True peace, absolute joy, the kind that lasts only comes from feeding on the One who made us. So, what are you "eating" today? Let’s fill up on the fuel we were built for: God’s presence, purpose, and Word. Because in the end, we are what we eat.
